What is Belotero?
Belotero is a newer dermal filler that is FDA-approved to reduce lines, wrinkles, and folds. Like Juvederm and Restylane, Belotero is hyaluronic acid facial filler that smooths moderate to severe wrinkles on the face. Belotero injections are effective for most of the lines and wrinkles on the face, including the lines that form above the upper lip, lines around the eyes, marionette lines, crow’s feet, nasolabial folds, and frown lines. It has particular utility in areas of thin skin such as the eyelid area, where other fillers are more prone to a lumpy appearance.
Belotero works best for \”etched\” lines that are more superficial and at the surface of the skin. Hyaluronic acid fillers are very safe substances and compatible with your body since you already produce the base molecule. Hyaluronic acid is a major component of the glue that sticks the cells in your body together. In essence, Belotero replaces the hyaluronic acid that your skin has lost as a result of the aging process and adds volume and fullness where you need it to restore a youthful look. The natural contours of your face are not altered so that you will simply look like a younger version of yourself.
Your Belotero Wrinkle Treatment Belotero injections can include lidocaine injection to numb the area, and we also provide an effective topical anesthetic to ensure your comfort. Your treatment will last 15-30 minutes depending on the number of areas you wish to improve. Please allow an hour for your entire appointment. The results may improve over a period of 3-4 weeks, and the overall effects generally last 4-6 months. For best results, patients may need consecutive injection sessions over months or years to reach and maintain optimal results. Please do not take aspirin, anti-inflammatory medications, or blood thinners for at least a week before your injections. Please consult with your primary physician prior to discontinuing any medically prescribed medications.
Please avoid the following for 7-10 days before your appointment:
- Ibuprofen/ Advil/ Motrin
- Aleve/ Naproxen
- Omega-3/ Fish Oil
- Excedrin Products
- Other: Ginseng/ Ginko Biloba/ Vitamin E/ Cinnamon/ Alcohol Ingestion
Note: Patients may want to consider taking Arnica Montana 3 days prior to their treatment. Arnica Montana can be purchased at most health food stores.
After Belotero Treatment
After Your Belotero Procedure Belotero has similar after-effects to the other facial fillers. You can leave our offices immediately following your injections and continue with your normal activities – with the exception of strenuous exercise, which you should avoid for a couple of days. Make-up should be avoided for six hours after treatment. Most people experience a small amount of bruising and swelling but with Belotero, those effects are usually better within 24 hours. Some bruising may last up to 7-14 days in certain patients and locations. Avoid sunlight as much as possible for a week, and be sure to wear sunscreen when you are outside for a period of time after your Belotero treatment. Your skin will be more susceptible to the sun. For some people, Belotero may work best in concert with one or more of the other injectables, such as Restylane, Radiesse, Juvederm, Sculptra, BOTOX, and Xeomin. Side effects include:
Initial reactions such as:
- Localized swelling
- Localized redness
- Post-Injection site pain

- Hardening of tissue @ injection site
