Belotero®

What is Belotero?

Belotero is a newer dermal filler that is FDA-approved to reduce lines, wrinkles, and folds. Like Juvederm and Restylane, Belotero is hyaluronic acid facial filler that smooths moderate to severe wrinkles on the face. Belotero injections are effective for most of the lines and wrinkles on the face, including the lines that form above the upper lip, lines around the eyes, marionette lines, crow’s feet, nasolabial folds, and frown lines. It has particular utility in areas of thin skin such as the eyelid area, where other fillers are more prone to a lumpy appearance.

Belotero works best for \”etched\” lines that are more superficial and at the surface of the skin. Hyaluronic acid fillers are very safe substances and compatible with your body since you already produce the base molecule. Hyaluronic acid is a major component of the glue that sticks the cells in your body together. In essence, Belotero replaces the hyaluronic acid that your skin has lost as a result of the aging process and adds volume and fullness where you need it to restore a youthful look. The natural contours of your face are not altered so that you will simply look like a younger version of yourself.

What are the side effects of Belotero Treatment?

Woman with smooth skin smiling

After Your Belotero Procedure Belotero has similar after-effects to the other facial fillers. You can leave our offices immediately following your injections and continue with your normal activities – with the exception of strenuous exercise, which you should avoid for a couple of days. Make-up should be avoided for six hours after treatment. Most people experience a small amount of bruising and swelling but with Belotero, those effects are usually better within 24 hours. Some bruising may last up to 7-14 days in certain patients and locations. Avoid sunlight as much as possible for a week, and be sure to wear sunscreen when you are outside for a period of time after your Belotero treatment. Your skin will be more susceptible to the sun. For some people, Belotero may work best in concert with one or more of the other injectables, such as Restylane, Radiesse, Juvederm, Sculptra, BOTOX, and Xeomin. Side effects include:

Initial reactions such as:

  • Localized swelling
  • Localized redness
  • Post-Injection site pain
  • Localized bruising
  • Hardening of tissue @ injection site
  • Localized Itching

Delayed reactions such as:

  • Lumps and bumps formation
